Remove Picasa Albums from your Gallery without deleting it

I am really mad with Picasa albums appearing on my mobile phone. I don’t use Picasa so my Google account has a lot of crappy photos.

I don’t want these photos on my phone so the automatic sync the latest Android version do, is irritating me.

The other irritating Android habit is that it creates an album for the pictures I upload to my Google Plus profile.

So there is a way to delete all these photos from your Android phone and never make them appear again.

With the following steps, you will only see the photos stored on your device and those you took with your camera.

The Picasa photos will not be deleted, they will just stop showing on the photo.

1. You need to stop syncing first. Go to Settings, then Accounts and choose Google.

2. Turn the sync off or deselect Google photos (or Picasa albums), Google Plus, Google+ Auto backup.

3. Now you should clear the gallery data so as to make the photos disappear (the photos will not be deleted from your Picasa account).

4. Go to Settings and select Apps then swipe right twice to the All tab

5. Find the Gallery app and select it

6. Press Clear Data.

7. Let the gallery refresh

That’s it! Now the Gallery is clean and it shows only the local photo albums.

I have a new LG G2 with the Picasa problem as well. When I go to accounts/google I don’t find google photos or picasa album anywhere to uncheck. How do I remove picasa photos from my phone? can I delete the picasa albums completely in Google?

I did this and it will work for a minute then the album shows up again. I have the ZTE imperial. I have it set to automatic sync so nothing syncs on its own so when I went to remove the Google sync it wasn’t syncing so I cleared the data and it worked for a minute then when I exited and went back into my gallery the album was back! It is super frustrating and will not go away. Please help..

did you turn the sync off? You have to deselect Google photos (or Picasa albums), Google Plus, Google+ Auto backup from syncing. Thanks for joining the club.

I’ve got a Nexus 5 (running 4.4.2) and have the same issue described here. Have some old Picasa Web Albums that have no business being available in the Gallery app on my phone.

I turned off Sync for Google+ photos and Google Photos. I go to the gallery app and clear the cache.

All is well in the Gallery app until you refresh, then those albums show back up even with sync turned off. I believe this to be a bug with no solution currently.

I got around it by using a combination of QuickPic and FStop Gallery.
