You can hard reset your Sony smartphone holding the button on/off together with home button for 5 seconds.

But there are some rules on Sony smartphones, not all of them can be reseted with this way.

Rule 01.

If your Sony smartphone has an embedded battery you can hard reset them by holding the button on/off together with home button for 5 seconds. The phones with embedded battery Χ10 mini, Xperia s, Xperia p Xperia u. If you cannot put the battery of your phone, try reseting your phone with this way.

Rule 02.

If your phone has Android version 1.6 to 2.1, the only way to hard reset it is to visit the Sony service.

Rule 03.

If your phone has Android 2.3 and above and the battery can be removed, you can hard reset them with PC Companion.

PC Companion is a collection of tools and applications you can use when you connect your device to a computer. PC Companion offers device software updates, contacts and calendar management, and a backup and restore feature for your phone content.

Steps

1. Download PC Companion (from this page) and install it to your PC.

2. Restart your PC and open the PC Companion software on your PC

3. Select > Support Zone – select Start .

4. Two screens will appear – software update + support zone online

5. Select > Software Update ( Start ). A screen will pop up displaying ” Couldn’t find the phone” – look for ” Repair”highlighted in blue on that pop up. And select it.

6. Click > Continue

7. To Prepare- You will see a green bar downloading ” preparing phone for update”

8. Later a screen will appear with all of our phones, choose the Xperia PLAY (PC companion will then download some more info and you will see a Screen showing you how to connect the unit . Phone should be off, battery should be at least 50% charged)

9. Connect the USB cable to your computer ( not to the phone ).

10. Your Phone must be turned off. Press and hold the back key on the phone( arrow key on the lower right hand side) while connecting USB. If done correctly, a green light will appear in the upper right hand corner and the phone should not power on. Do not release the button (back key) until the screen advises you to do so.
